-FIRST MEXICAN REPUBLIC- A coupe d'etat headed by generals Antonio López de Santa Anna and Vicente Guerrero finished with the Empire in 1823. Then a triumvirate was placed while the Republic emerged. This event produced the division of the Central American States. In 1824, Guadalupe Victoria took over the chairmanship. Many new reliefs decorated the Mexican reales, including the "Freedom in Law" Phrygian cap; a seal that would continue being used for more than a century.
